Our work speaks for itself

We had a design assignment to create a lightweight object that can hold the weight of a person.

I started by making tests of woven duct tape and trying a cardboard honeycomb composite material

this weaving turned into a hammock design made of tape

before switching to a rope hammock design

The lightest weight lightweight sitting object was 5 tied ropes, and weighed 15 grams

I wanted to make something more substantial though. I combined the ropes and weaving to create a hanging swing.

It weighs just under 700g
